 The FCT Police Command has uncovered a network involved in illegal production and use of fake diplomatic and official government number plates, recovering over 80 presidency and diplomatic plates. Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi disclosed Friday at command headquarters Abuja, saying suspects use fake plates to evade checkpoints and gain access to restricted areas, ministries. "Upon assumption of duty, my attention was drawn to proliferation of diplomatic plates in hands of unauthorized individuals. Investigations uncovered users and production chain. Manufacturers operating outside FCT have been identified, we are on their trail," Sanusi said. He said buyers paid N500,000 to N1.7 million per plate for criminal cover. He urged residents to report suspicious diplomatic numbers, noting genuine plates follow recognized format.
