  • ​Rebuilding Institutional Momentum: Ambassador Are, who recently presented his Letter of Credence to President Trump at the White House, noted the critical importance of his assignment, especially since Nigeria operated without a substantive ambassador to the US for three years. He emphasized that restoring institutional momentum takes time but is vital for advancing national interests.

  • ​Strategic Objectives: An official high-level meeting is expected to consolidate the strategic partnership between both nations. Key agenda items on the horizon include deepening political and economic cooperation, expanding trade, boosting foreign investments, and strengthening joint counter-terrorism and security collaborations.

  • ​Addressing Visa and Immigration Challenges: The ambassador also touched on the strict US immigration policies affecting Nigerians seeking visas for business, education, and family visits. He assured that while representation alone cannot completely erase visa challenges, sustained diplomatic engagements will help create better conditions for Nigerian travelers.
