Breaking news: Four Arrested as Joint Security Team Overpowers Kidnap Gang in Lanlate, Oyo State.

The Oyo State Police Command, in collaboration with the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and hunters, successfully rescued two children who were abducted by armed hoodlums in the Ibarapa axis.

The operational details released by the state police command highlight the following sequence of events:

  • The Invasion: On Friday, June 27, 2026, armed bandits invaded Ebinpejo Village via Lanlate, located within the Ibarapa East Local Government Area. The attackers violently ransacked homes, assaulted local residents, and fled deep into the nearby forest after taking two children hostage.

  • The Forest Gun Duel: Following a rapid distress call, the state's Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, ordered an aggressive bush-combing and rescue mission. Utilizing technical resources and credible intelligence, the joint security team located the kidnappers' forest hideout. Upon approach, the hoodlums engaged the forces in a fierce gun battle but were ultimately overpowered by the operatives' superior firepower.

  • Arrests and Casualties: Two suspects, Umaru Usman (25) and Abdullahi Ahmed (28), were apprehended after sustaining gunshot wounds during the shootout and attempting to escape. Follow-up investigations quickly led to the arrest of Sunday Idowu (30), identified as a local collaborator who provided logistics, and Muhammed Ibrahim Shina (29), who allegedly traveled all the way from Ilorin, Kwara State, to join the operation.

  • Safe Reunion: The two children were safely rescued from captivity. Although one of the victims sustained minor injuries during the ordeal, both received prompt medical treatment and have been successfully reunited with their family.
