The American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID) has issued a strongly worded press statement condemning businessman Chigozie Nnabugwu over his televised call urging the Nigerian government to extrajudicially kill Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The organization also faulted News Central TV for broadcasting the remarks, describing them as inflammatory, unlawful, and an incitement to violence. 

In the statement dated July 22, 2026, and signed by Chief Dr. Sylvester Onyia (President) and Dr. Godson Obiagwu (General Secretary), AVID demanded that Chigozie Nnabugwu immediately retract his statement, publicly apologize to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, his family, and the global Igbo community, and that News Central TV air an unequivocal televised apology for amplifying content that allegedly endangered human life and undermined the rule of law.

AVID maintained that advocating the extrajudicial killing of any citizen constitutes a grave violation of fundamental human rights, due process, and constitutional governance, warning that justice and lasting peace can only be achieved through respect for the law—not calls for state-sanctioned violence. continue reading
